Conclusion: the current generation of digital cameras is a vast improvement over the last generation but is still not as accurate as film cameras, showing distinct pixelization even at high resolutions as well as unnatural edges. Digital cameras also offer fewer picture control features such as wide zoom ranges (more than 3x), manual focus, fast shutter speeds, etc. But as a replacement for the ubiquitous auto-everything, point-and-shoot film camera, the current generation of digital cameras works just fine, offering the ability to immediately review and delete photos, view photos on a tv, and download to computers without having to scan prints. With a high-resolution color printer such as the Epson PM-2000C, it is possible

to get quite decent prints at home. And the resolution and quality are just fine for the web. I'm impressed, but will wait for the next generation, which should offer higher resolutions and finer control over the picture-taking process. |
