What are we doing at Makapuu? Weren't we at the Pali just a moment ago? And aren't we supposed to be going to Don's place just outside Waikiki?

Well, leaving the Pali, Steve made a left when he should have made a right, and we ended up on the Pali Highway heading towards Kailua. Okay, my fault. It's been awhile since I last drove to the Pali. As a result, we took the long way around and checked out some beaches for future reference.

Makapu'u is a well-known bodysurfing beach just across the street from the even more well-known Sea Life Park. I spent many an afternoon here as a high school and college student.That's Rabbit Island in the upper right hand corner of the top photo.

Yoko and the kids are way overdressed for the beautiful, but typical Hawaiian weather that day. Steve, dressed as usual in shorts, t-shirt and slippers, finally felt right at home and assured of several days of freedom from stares and comments about his chosen attire.

Note that Yoko and the kids are all more appropriately dressed in the photo at top. That pic was taken several days after the one at right. All those long sleeves and pants never saw the light of a Hawaiian day again.
