For years, Yoko has threatened to take (actually retake) swimming lessons. Now, she's made good on her threat: she took her first lesson a few days ago, in the first week of January (1998). That takes care of New Year Resolution #1. But wait! There's more to this story. Yoko forgot to bring a towel to her first lesson, so she called home from the locker room and asked me to bring her one before the lesson ended. I packed up the towel and the kids and headed over to the swimming center next door. We got there well before the end of the lesson. |

And then it started. Calvin and Brian, both grizzled veterans of 18 months of swimming lessons, started yelling "No, no! THIS way! Watch!" And for the next ten minutes, as she swam up and down the swimming pool, the two kids walked up and down the visitor's gallery, demonstrating for her the proper technique, and shouting encouragement and advice! Embarrassing? You bet! Especially after all those months of her commenting on THEIR swimming techniques! Score two 'gotcha's' for the kids!

The B has not been riding much this year, but Yoko thinks he's ready to lose the training wheels. What do you say, B? Are you ready for life in the fast lane? |
